Computer Science in BISI

In BISI, Computer Science courses are offered as electives in IGCSE & IBDP level.

The aim of our 10-11 grade IGCSE Computer Science course is to develop an understanding of the main principles of problem solving using computers. Students learn to develop computer-based solutions to problems using algorithms and a high-level programming language (Python). They also learn to appreciate current and emerging computing technologies, the benefits of their use and to recognise their potential risks.

The aim of the 12-13 grade IB DP Computer Science course is to become aware of how computer scientists work and communicate with each other in the successful development and implementation of IT solutions. The course provides opportunities for study and creativity within a global context that will challenge students developing the skills necessary for lifelong learning.

Students learn to develop logical and critical thinking as well as experimental, investigative and problem-solving skills, and to apply the students’ information and communication technology skills in the study of computer science to communicate information confidently and effectively. This course also raises awareness of the moral, ethical, social, economic and environmental implications of using science and technology, and encourages an understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and the overarching nature of the scientific method.

In short, studying Computer Science is more than just learning how to code. In addition to learning programming by using several programming languages (for IGCSE Python and for IB DP Java), students learn how computers work and how they can use computers to solve real world problems.
